Soo... I thought i would try some snails in with my beta.. aka Snagglepus.. gf named him.. not even sure if thats spelled right haha. with that being said.. my betta likes to pick at the snails.. and it hasnt been working out as in the snails end up being dead... so i put the new snail in the tank and the betta is already raising hell with him.. Any ideas on what to do? 7 gallon hex tank with 4 live plants and sand as substrate... 1 male betta.. who maybe wants to be a loner haha.

so maybe some options? i have a 20 gallon community tank i think im going to move the snail to...

there isnt really anything you can do, unless you can move the snail to its own little tank for now.

do you think anything will work in the tank with him? i think he doesnt like apple snails.. thats just my guess lol

I had, well my sister had and betta who died recently, used to attack snails approaching the nest. A few of his fry attack the eye stalks of the snails.

try chinese mystery snails. they are bigger so it wont die to simple betta harassment

I think he is just the kind of Betta who is better on his own. If he attacks a snail, I think he would do the same with a shrimp, pleco or anything that people put in with Bettas. My Ernie went troppo when I put a BN catfish in with him, and even though I took the catfish out after about 10 mins, Ernie has acted like a bit of a nutter ever since.

Funny, my Leo will attack anything BUT snails. I had him in with two giant pond snails, one was just a baby, smaller than a dime, and he was fine with them. But when I tried to put a sweet little otto in with him, he went after it like a guided missile.

The thing with bettas is, they are all different. Some do fine with other fish, some don't. In fact, bettas have about the most personality of any type of fish I've ever owned- except maybe my old oscar. (and bettas need a lot less room! :D )
