Will try and get a pic of the new setup tonight.

My hex tank setup

The new tank I got was the aqua 40 with the curved corners. It comes with a filter with a tiny spraybar. Faced against the glass and with the flow set to 'min' it's fine for him :good:
I haven't has much luck with plants. Rufus' tank just has sand in with amazon swords, anubias, java fern, moss balls and a bit of pondweed. The floating plant is water lettuce which does very well in there.
In the other tanks, I had cat litter under the sand and dosed ferts and easy carbo. I found this too much effort and the plants didn't look fabulous. As soon as I stopped, they got even worse though.
My latest setup has pond compost under sand. I have an aponogenton which is flowering and doing very well, but the plants I moved across from the other tank still don't look great. I'm hoping they're settling in still.

my tank is hex aswell looking to get suming simular to that last pics thanks :good:

That tank did the worst for plants, I think partly because of the lighting, but partly the filter. It's a trickle filter with a kind of ledge at the back where the media sits. This ledge means the back gets no light virtually at all.
I would def. recommend silk or those soft squidgy plastic ones for a hex.
It's also very difficult to plant with the tall shape and limited access to the top.

i need a new softer filter for mine
i was planning to have small plants at the front and bigger ones at the back the tank gets plenty of sun light, as the bulb in it is rubbish its the same as a oven lamp

Will get some updated photos soon, but here are some of my previous set-ups:
