Hello, I've had a nice Male Betta for about 5months in a 200L community tank without any trouble...until tonight!

I noticed he seemed to be flaring gills and chasing the 5inch Angels (they are not that bothered but would not want it getting worse)
He also has been having a chase of RedHoney Gourami. - a case of showing his muscle?
He is fed well and water is good.

Should I move him to my 130L (with Swordtails) or put a divider in current tank, or hope it calms down, or take to Lfs??

Any views would be welcome...

(P.s I have read that Bettas and Angels don't mix, but have had no bother for 5 months....and kept Another one for ages in past without any trouble)

well the question isn't should you move him, but rather when

put him in a breeding trap/net for the time being untill you get a smaller tank for him, or a divider

if you have niether of these things, rearrange the interior of the tank to kill the territorialism in the betta, although this may not be 100% effective

he is likely to be just as aggressive to swordtails as they look somewhat like betta fish

Thanks for reply> I was thinking he will chase the Swordtails just as much (if not more-as they are 'LyreTails'!)

Mmmm? I think I will do the following...

A; put the Male Swordtail into Community tank, and
B; put the Betta in his own half section of the 130L tank.
C; ..I'll then have two pregnant Female Swords in the heavily-planted other half (separated by divider)
D; put floating trap in for Fry when they drop.

>This gives the Betta a bit of solidarity in a 65L space + leaves those Swords, Angels and Gourami in peace....I hope!

I'll go and get the net, bags and bucket ready...

yeha i don't think angels and bettas are ever a good mix either he will attack them or they will attack him, better to be safe than sorry! :good:

Well, that was quite a little re-shuffle.....Betta is now in own half of 130L tank, 2 female Swords are in other half, Male Swordtail in big community tank (+ moved Pleco LOO1 & Bogwood to 300L, as it would need to be done eventually)

They are all acclimatising to there new surroundings with the lights off> Hopefully harmony will be restored...

>The Male Sword will be added in with Females at intervals in the future (I'll let them have first batch of fry and rest)
