Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could give me any information on starting a Betta sorority tank!

Tank size minimum?
Fish minimum?
Age fish should be to start out?
Do they have to be of the same variety?

These are a few questions I have as of now. Any other advice or experience is welcomed! Thank you!

10 gallons, but I'd do 15<.

5. Try 10-15 if you're doing a 20 gallon, or perhaps 7-9 in a 15 gallon.

I bought mine as adults, but if you can get a group of sisters that would make life easier.

No.

Heavily plant the tank, make sure you know the hierarchy. Some bettas aren't meant for the thug sorority life, so keep an eye on them.

If you can get a group of females from the breeder, preferablly all sisters, it will make your life much easier. A friend of mine gave me 4 tiny females (Dragonscale x moon tail I believe was their parentage) they had bred and they all grew up together with no issues. One even turned out to be a late blooming male but even he behaved himself and never turned nasty towards his three sisters and they in turn never bothered him. I put it down to them being together from day dot and him being slow to mature, it may too have been their breeding and not being the rather bugnasious plakat breed of fighter. Also they had a fairly large tank with lots of plants and structure to break up line of sight so each fish if it wished to be alone had the oppertunity. At no other time would I ever attempt to keep a male with females, in my case it was just a pure lucky fluke that nothing bad happened to any of the fish.
