Betta Size

Hi-

I am new to breedin bettas, and i jus wanted to know whether there is a minimum size the female has to be for breeding? I really like this light colored female but she seems a bit small... shes around...2.5 - 3 cm tip of mouth to end of tail. is that too small?

Hello, depends on age, if she's ready and full of eggs, and how big in comparison to the male she is. There is also a very acurate pinned topic on breeding i suggest you read and re-read again and again.

no will give the male a better, time as he will be able to wrap himself better round the female if the female is to large it can be frustrating and have seen a female rip a male to bits because she got frustrated because he could not wrap around her..........

Depends the female is ready or not and has big belly with eggs or not. Also when you pair them, you can see the darker strips vertically on the female if it is a dark color. It is usually better to have a smaller female than the male at least 10%. Hope this help.

i was jus worried that the female is not sexually active or somethin yet. Her belly isnt really that big, but i can see, after feeding her, a lil white "Salt Grain" on her...um...underside tho. Does that mean something?

I cant tell when she will be ready to breed cos she is light colored...

Oh and ive had them conditioned for a lil over a week now and the female is still scared of the male i think...cos when i put her in a container and float her in the males tank for some "arousal time", she gets jumpy as the male is v v v aggressive towards her. But he is building a nice bubblenest...and he entices the female to the nest too! Anyways, is being a lil scared + jumpy normal? or are they supposed to fight back! and take no sexual harrassment!?

that is mean she is not ready yet. give her another 3 weeks. if she flare back and the head is dwon to him, that is mean she is about time.
