I have 2 bettas in a 2.5 gallon tank with a single divider (Fred and Red). I used to run 2 small sponge filters (1 in each partition) but I removed it when I moved the tank.

I feed them either TetraMin, dried bloodworms or dried shrimp. Lately Fred seems listless and does not seem to feed as much as Red. I do not see any obvious signs of disease. His color seems to have become more pale.

Any Ideas?

2 Betta in a 2.5 gall tank!!!

What are the water stats, what temp do you keep the water at, what maintenance do you do.

Having said that i wouldnt really like to have 1 Betta in a 2.5 gallon tank let alone 2.

"Bettas can live healthy and well in anything from a 1 gallon up"

from the TFF FAQ Betta forum

Water temp is room temp, currently about 75.
Change 50% water twice a week.
Feed 1 time per day.

Hi Scott, what are your other readings: ammonia, nitrate, nitrite and PH?

Being pale is a sign of stress.
Like been asked need test results.

I would be doing more water changes if I were you, my 2.5 gallon needs it usually daily and I only have one betta in mine! I do 100% changes at least every other day. Also the temperature is a little low.

How old are your boys? My two in the divided are my oldest and one has just scared me now. He sits on the floor, and then when he sees me looking at him he swims to the top. I have had him the longest so I know it is old age. They stress when I clean them out...and I sometimes put the wrong ornaments in the wrong side and they sulk!

Just becuase someone says i keep a Betta in 1 gallon and it works, doesnt mean its the correct thing to do, or a healthy thing to do for the fish. Plus in something that small by the time u add a heater and filter there is not a lot of space left for the fish.

You can pick up 10 Gall tanks for £15 which is pennies, cut that in half get 2 fish in 5 gall each much much better for the fish and much more enjoyable for you to look at.
