i sware i have had more problems with this new filter.
anyways yesterday i woke up and found my fishies rear tail in shreds. he was fine the night before so i was startled to see it so shredded.
he has also been a bit chuncked out, i am withholding food from him for the week. he didn't get fed yeasterday and won't be today. i did a water change on his five gallon (about 90-85%) burned my finger on his heater as a result >.< anways i used amiquel on the tank i am not sure if my strips are off or not but they said the ph level was off.
could the shreding be from amonia burns or could it be tail rot. this thing won't let me upload pictures for some reason. i am treating the tail with maracyn.

i changed his filter about three weeks ago since then he has gotten a bruise on his face (which was what the zit was) and now this. shoud i be concerend about the filter?

should also add other then being fat, he has been relitivly normal. more active in the morning hours then the night hours, his bed time is at 10:30 although last night i put him to bed early.

You need to get tests done for the ammonia as its a new filter. Whats the ph reading?

I dont see any point in starving him. Offer bloodworm but not too many. What temperature is the water and what do you do during water changes? The filter should be left alone to mature, but you need to check ammonia and nitrites.

Hi
What filter are you using? Also, the test strip things are notoriously off. I would get the liquid tester instead :good:

the filter i am using is a whisper filters. its a 5 gallon tank i bought it at wal mart a mini bow.
i was alarmed by how quickly hs fins came apart it literally happened over night.

Hi
I'm not familiar with that filter, but presume its one that sucks the water up out of the tank and them trickles it back in?

I would suggest daily water changes. If he is by himself you could add some aquarium salt to aid recovery. Ripped fins can take a while to heal.

Best get your water tested for ammonia and nitrIte :good: Either of these can damage your fish.

Cheers
