well, i thought i would start a second topic for my second betta tank :D

kev thought he would let me have this for christmas as he wanted something for his car, so i couldnt refuse really

i go and collect this thursday, am paying £45 for it, so got a real bargain.

comes complete with filter, but i am going to strip it out and use internal fluvals on this one. how many male bettas can go into a 125l? and how many inches would each divide need to be (accounting for 3-5 gal each depending on width as the current boys look lost lol)? someone managed to work it our for me last time i would be most grateful if you could again, i cant get my head round it

and the hole from the skimmer, going to work something out to cover this (the flap on ebay is £25 + P&P)

i think i may gravel this tank, as cleaning is a right royal pain lol

will see i suppose.....

Ooh! Sounds great! :D

Couldn't you just do 6 5-gallon compartments (6x5=30), and, then, use the 1.5-gallon compartments at either side (I'd make it this way), with the heater on the one side, and the filter on the other side? ^^;

Just an idea, hmm? :D

thats a good idea. you could try tankmates in sections that big. gravel is a good way to go too. looks much tidier than sand (on the whole-sand is a pain to keep clean in low-flow betta tanks). an issue you might get is algae on the gravel after a time. but no harm to fihs and is a very natural thing to happen in a tank.

if you are finding it difficult to keep the sand clean between syphons/ waterchanges, think about getting some trumpet snails. yes, they are hermaphroditic, but as long as you dont over feed your tanks with them (or ANy snail) their populations are limited to the amount of available food (if feeding pellets to a betta might actually have to suppliment snails with flake). trumpet snails are particularly good for sand substrate, as they burrow into/out of the sand and keep it nicely turned over for you, mixing in the organics. your plants might do better too if you added snails to the sandy tank<--thats what ill call the first betta tank, second il call gravel tank :).. if you decide to give live a try again. snails are good in any tank. ive got them in ALL of mine and welcome even the "pest" hitch-hikers. pygmy cories and khuli loaches are other things to consider if youd like more livestock in the sandy tank as both will also help keep sand turned (keeping in mind kulhis like hidey holes and feel comfy in groups...also very little bioload.).

in the sand tank i have cories in each section.

i wont put the filter and heater in the middle as i have found the hard way one end stays warm, one cold

thanks for all suggestions though :)

thank you :D

this one wont be started til after new year as i have to sort Mia's birthday out first (new years day  )

so... can it be divided into 6?? i have only 5 (admittedly a bigger centre section) on the 180, which is a bigger tank....

am lost now, i tried my math and got 8 sections

edit:

i am going to do four sections, each section measuring 7.75x14.17x19.69 inch each, giving them over 7 gallons each :good:

the plan is to have two fluval pumps in there, one on each end with an added spray bar over the top

will keep you updated. this one is going to be slow due to lack of funds!

the ones in the other tank? or this one?

I'mnot sure if this is going to be divided yet as I'm breaking down my community tank

ah wow!! anouther one? and at the price!!! why do i always miss these bargains lol, looking forward to see it started :)

well the other half has decided he doesnt want a community tank, so this is deffo going to be a betta tank :D

going to divide it into three (not four as originally planned) and have 2 boys and a sorority

As one of the girls I swapped for with Soph turned out to be a PK boy I needed to rearrange my tanks to accommodate him.

So, as a resort I put all eleven girls into the 125 as a temporary measure.

pics of the set up (til I can get divides etc sorted)
