Betta Rescues!

So I have a few bettas that I want to make sure what tail type they are. I know the red one is a VT. But for not the one I'm trying to figure out most right now is this one that I got from petsmart.. Now I know that petsmart hasent been selling halfmoons even though they are labled that way.. But this guy has super long fins.. and has a bit of fin damage.. He was calling me! So I had to get him. But I'm not sure if he is a halfmoon or not.. I'm kind of thinking double tale..

Sorry for the horrible pic. Its kind of dark in my room will have to wait until I got him in the 10 gallon. Also he doesnt really look that color.. I think it's only the flash. But the damage doesnt shoe either.. oh well. Any idea? He looks like a DT to me.. but he also has some nip damage in that exact spot..

Definitely a DT. All DTS have that extra big dorsal that starts closer to their head, because the mutation that causes DT mirrors the bottom half of the fish onto the top.. So you basically have an extra caudal and an anal fin as a dorsal, which is why its so big! And depending on how many rays he has, you can tell if he's a VT or HM type DT. Since the photo is too blurry for me to tell, use this guide: Guide to Ray Counting. If he mostly has 4 rays or more, he's an HM type DT, if he has mostly 2, hes a VT type (though he might have a 4 ray here and there, but he's still a VT).

And of course he looks like hes super pretty, DTs arent my thing but I love that green

Thats what I thought! Sadly though there are to many holes in his fin to count the rays.. Plus the rays are so tiny its hard to count, especally since he keeps going to the back.

Sorry to say that isnt his actuall color though lol. Thats what the flash made it, he's actually a dark blue/red. I checked out the guide.. actually counting the rays is harder than they make it seem lol.

Is it possible that he is a delta double tail? I know petsmart has been selling deltas as halfmoons..
