Hello I was just wondering if anyone knew if a betta wouldn't eat if it was stressed ? I just got him yesterday and he didn't eat and today I tried to feed him and he didn't eat anything either, I have tried giving him flakes, frozen blood worms, frozen brime shrimp and betta food and I havent seen him eat anything so the water is perfect with the ammonia at zero and ph and everything is good he is acting fine except for just not wanting to eat yet.

I remember when I first got one of my bettas she didn't eat for a couple of days, and was pretty wary of food for a week or so afterward. Now she eats like a wolf. Just give it time and once he gets used to his surroundings he should take interest in food.

I also noticed my bettas don't like it too much when I switch the type of food (flake to pellet or minipellets or something), they ignore the new type of food a little. So I'd just stick with offering whatever you plan on feeding them normally in case they're not sure what's edible or not.

Thank you for your help hopefully he will start eatting after he gets use to everything.

he will eat once he is settled. doesnt matter what you feed them. flake or pellets are fine-whatever you have on hand. he will eat when hes hungry. they can go quite some time without food.
enjoy the new boy!
cheers

What kind of betta food? I was recommended betta flakes...which did nothing; hikari betta pellets work best :)

I haven't bought the special betta flakes yet but I do have the betta pellets I just thought I would try the pellets first since I had all the other fish food already. Hopefully the little guy will eat today.

Thanks for your advice! and for the cheers! It took me 20 minutes to stand in the pet store and pick up every little cup over and over again before I could make up my mind. It just makes me so sad that they have to stay in the cups untill someone buys them. I wanted to take them all home with me but I can only have one.

I wouldn't bother with the flakes :) (I was only asking to make sure). Hopefully he'll stop sulking and eat soon enough

My Local LFS Tends to keep ONE male in each and every tank down the rows, with the other stock, neons, guppies, corys.

Last time i went he had a tank of 20 Females (which sold within a day).

why not? my bettas all get flake as staple. IME, pellets can cause too many problems. good flake is just as nutritious and less likely to cause constipation or other issues.
just my 2 cents.
doesnt matter if they get flake or pellets. it is down to personal preference.
cheers

It was only because the OP said they had pellets; there is no point in getting flakes as well if he isn't eating at the minute.

Thank you everyone for all your help and advice. He is now eatting good so it just took him a couple of days to get use to his new home I guess. I feel much better now.
