I just got a pretty rough looking betta. He is in a 5 gal by himself. His fins are almost all torn off and as of yesterday they started getting fungus. He appears to have ich also. He is being treated with tetracycline, only the 2nd dose so far. This afternoon when i went to check on him again, I though he was dead he was laying on his side at the top. I opened the lid and he started to swim again. Please help fast!!!

Raise temp and add some salt, but you must increase aeration.

I got my temp up to 80F right now, i have lots of aeration. Im doing a water change right now and adding salt. I didnt do water changes between treatments of TC should i have been?????

Get temp up to 30 as it good with tetracycline plus with whitespot too.

Water changes are fine as long as you are matching temp and adding med back to the water removed.

Ok well i did a water change added salt, cranked my aeration up even higher. I hope he makes it. He wasnt looking so good. At the moment he is swimming a bit. You suppose i should leave his light off too??? Could the TC be too much for him to handle??

Any med can be to much for a fish if he's weak and not strong enough, need that temp up, fingers crossed not sounding to good.

Ok, bless him, fingers are crossed.

Well he made it through the night. He is swimming a little still. But he is eating now. He has ich pretty bad on him this morning even with the temp up. He has had 3 days of TC now and nothing else. Should i be treating him with ich medication too or wait till the TC days are up?

Don't stop the tc as it will just come back, do a water change, keep the salt going and temp, and add the med, glad he made it through the night bless him.

How long do i use the TC for, the package says 5 days and today will be the 4th. Will the TC take care of the ich at all???

No but it will give him some protection, the water changes and high temp will be helping, might need to go another round of the tc, if you think he's coping with the med, you could try half a dose of whitespot med.

Ok thanks, i think i will give him another day or so of water changes before i add any whitespot med. You said half a dose, i can use that along with the TC right??

Don't like advising mixing meds, as some fish can't tolerate two meds, so it's up to you, I can't see how bad he is, but the salt, water changes, and high temp should help with the whitespot.

Just thought i would give an update on the little guy. He is doing so much better!! He is looking great now, swimming around no more of his tail has fallen off. A matter of fact, it has this almost clear looking outline where it had fallen off at. Is that like some sort of "scab" or something where his tail is repairing itself???? Should i go with a second round of TC?? He isnt laying on his side at all anymore and like i said he has that stuff on his fins where they broke off at.
