Checked params nitrites and ammonia 0, nitrates 5.

Only had since last saturday and really can't remember if he has been like this all along or not, first saw like this two days ago.. he is in 14g divided into 3 with Reno a second betta in middle divide. He has been eating happily and healthily but wondered if injury or something wrong??

Reno is fine next door and both have settled in so well may not have noticed this. I currently have melafix and wont be able to get meds till tomorrow..

looks like injury. but more like mouthrot. its related to finrot so you will need some antibac meds. melafix will do nothing in this situation.
can he eat ok? that really would be my concern. i dont see any fuzz or fluff, redness etc (thanks for the good quality pics). water stats are great so keep them up :good: ..he will probably never look quite normal again but as long as he can eat ok, he should be fine.
keep us posted.

Well I noticed on Tuesday but he had been battered anyways. But then really though to check..He has been behaving fine, been a bit feisty and also eating really really well which is why wasnt too worried. Another forum has suggested mouth rot too :( I will treat Melafix tonight and hope to get something anitfungal tomorrow as soon as can. :(

As the water stats are fine, been feeding fine etc. What is likely to have caused this?? Really really wish couldve gotten better quality.

p.s. on looks he is battered anyways but that really doesnt matter to me as long as healthy and eating..

Further update store has range of medications for fungal will go armed with pics and list. Done a 40% water change on the tank.

Just another bump. The store mentioned that when using anti fungal treatments to use an airstone as the oxygen will be lowered. Is this true and do I need to consider this? I have spare airstone and pump but it is massively noisy and always been afraid it is not working properly because of the noise. Any help appreciated :)

As Far as I remember anti fungal do reduce oxygen levels, so extra aeration would be advisable

I have the main fluval 2 plus in there and a mini elite taht produces alot of bubbles, would this be enough?

Right today got Interpret Fungus, added as per instructions my parnter being human calculator working out for me properly. Had to go out for 3 hours but set my beloved on guard. Poor Rude looks worst than ever, has now got a massive rip in his tail from I do not know what and has wedged/perched himself on a silk plant right near the surface. We were unsure if Reno was acting a little lethargic as well so ended up dong 50-60% water change and thinking to redose for that percentage tomorrow, what do you guys think?
