yarr..... well as for my opinon my 3 , 10 gals get a 25 weekly and 100 bout every 2 months, i do have a heated unfiltered 1 gal with 1 beta at work, and he gets water changed monday wensday and fri...... baaa, as for a betta living 6 years?? i dunnno, i ve heard up to 5 but realy they life span is only 3 to 4.... me thinks someone was getting a little carried away?? just a tad?

I read a report of bettas in labs living to around 9 years actually. It didn't state tank size or regime however.

realy? honey? see all my info come from current books and pet store stuf to get rearainged to what people say here,,, but there is this old crazy tai guy that come into my lfs and talked to be about when he used to breed all sorts of fish here in the us to sell as his buisness. from what i could understand ,, there was somwhat of a language barrier to keep in mind/// his fish keeping pratcices are almost completly different then what we standerize today.

like males being kept alone and seperating babies at very young ages, along with the small tank sizes

he breed his bettas in koi ponds in his green house , the mated pair of male and female lived togather permennlty and raised the young togather, till a much older ager like 8 weeks , then he removed the parents and only statted remnoving males as they became older still and them more aggresive.

but over all his bettas did seem to have longer life spans , and were much less aggresive then todays bettas like i have now,, even my sibling brothers kicked the crap out of each other at 8 weeks..

so could the over all genteics have changed to shorted live spans or is it a type of nurture verses dna?? what with the completly different way bettas are bred now??
