Hey all! Just got a new betta and was curious if some of you betta 'experts' could give me some general advice and info about bettas. I did research online but would like some info from people who've had hands on experience. Currently he is housed in a heated and filtered 7 gallon tank. He often see's his reflection and flares up. He also likes to take swim breaks and lounges on the bottom gravel. I turned the filter down so as to keep the current low for him. I've been feeding him betta pellets and the occasional freeze-dried blood worm. Does it sound like the envirnoment is ok for him? Anything else I should know? Appreciate any input! Thanks- Dianne

mel you should have seen finn, i fed him the other day and the little bugger scared me i dropped the others pellets in too... he ate the all... fatty he was

this boy is gorjus!
looks like finn but in CT form! :)

What a pretty boy!

Sounds like everything is good. Frozen food would be a great treat for him if it's not too much of a pain.

Have you decided if your going to put anything in with him...apple snail, otos, shrimp? I think I remember you were even considering some neon tetras. He is a gorgeous fish btw. I really am thinking of getting a betta now.

I'de a little wary of that rock you have in there with him. Looks really rough and could have the potential of ripping his fins up.

Other than that (which probably won't even be an issue) sounds like you're doing everything right :D

yep it all sounds perfect, dont forget your water changes need to frequent esp for crowntails.

great colour, in one pic he looks like what i could only describe as a celophane mustard gas and the other pink he looks like (a totally made up name) but sort of like a champagne blue if that makes any sense???

Ya..I was feeding him too much. I think I was putting in around 10 of the little betta pellets at first :hyper: ..
whattam' I crazy?? Now I feed him 1 a day.

For the past week he has been living with 2 guppies, 2 neon tetras and a black apple snail.
They all get along great. I was vigilant in making sure that there was absolutely NO NIPPING OF FINS!!
Actually they pretty much swim around ignoring each other. The only thing that the betta flares at is his own reflection!

I am keeping an eye on the rock. I bought it before I read an article online that said to be wary of jagged rocks.
When he feels like hiding somewhere he goes into the fake bamboo leaves..which are fairly soft.

Now I need to name him....

Sounds like everything is in order, great job! :good: Only thing I would suggest is once he isn't so portly anymore, feed him 4-5 pellets a day and skip one day a week all together to avoid constipation. As for a name, I think Phantom suits him because of his light colors and his flowing pale tail in the 2nd and 4th pics. makes him look rather ghostly.

wow cool looking guy. you need to get his feeding in check though
