I recently did a small upgrade (last week) from 20 l to 30 l and yesterday my betta I assume was having a bad day, he has more space to roam and hide than before but he was literally going for anything that moved in the tank except my shrimp.

He never did this before and had him 3 months now so am I right in thinking he is getting his territory sorted and shouldn't be a problem as long as I keep an eye on him

Could I ask what tank mates you have in with him (except the shrimp, of course!)?

Molly's, zebra fish, and Otos, I know zebras aren't the best of tank mates due to their speed but they all get on well and they tend to keep together near the surface, the fighter occupies a boat at the bottom and enjoys being in the middle and the molly's chase each other in and out of the Plants.

Ah, how many mollies? You'll need to watch your stocking and water paras, as that seems like a pretty big stock for only a 30L!

You're right, the danios probably aren't the best tankmates, and while the betta is upset you'll need to watch his fins, as they can be pretty nippy.

Did you use mature filter media when moving to the new tank or did you set up a completely new filter with different sponges and everything?

I have 3 molly's, I managed to fit my bioballs and filter wool into my fluval 2 filter by removing one of the 2 sponges and doing regular checks and keeping the bioballs in there a minimum of 1 month beyond removing the wool.

The zebras are too interested in each other to notice the betta but I watch the tank a few hours a day so I would notice them nipping fins

I think even though the zebras keep themselves to themselves my betta had a go at one of the females as there is evidence something attacked it during the night and with the betta having the mood swing it sort of narrows it down a little.

If your betta is attacking the other fish, could you move him back to the 20L to be by himself?

Unfortunately I took the 20l back to my parents for storage as where I am I don't have the space for multiple tanks, and it will be a few weeks til I could upgrade again due to needing to find a big enough tank as well as the space too as the drawer unit I am using is probably at it's maximum for the weight of tank on top of it.
