I can get a 55 gallon long from a friend free, it is in perfect shape and a foressnt hood and filters heater, the works. he is basically getting rid it because his wife don't want him to keep fish anymore, for whatever reason, so he offered it to me.

Will this be too big for just one betta, He is in a 10 gallon now, with alot of live plants and things and he loves it, would a 55 be way to big for just him?, I hate to wast he space, if he owuldnt even swim all of it, lol.

With that big of a setup and a ton of plants, what could I put in with him?, I have been looking at a list of possible compatabile fish, but im not sure.

I had thought about maybe seeing if I could get a divider and seperate them and get another betta.

Sugesstions anyone?

no matter what I want alot of plants!

Thanks in advance!

No. They can never be too big. He would LOVE a 55 gallon. You could keep the male in the 10 and do a sorority with like 20 femaes

So are you saying I should make it into a Brothel :hyper:

I like that, I guess at least one of us should have one, and I sure as hell know I'll never get that lucky.

Ill check in ito it, lol

uh no thats not what he said. he said make a sorrity. as in all females then put the male in a different tank. you cant mix them.

I'd definitely leave the male in the 10G and as Zafirah suggested, have a sorority of females in the 55G.

I'm looking into a making a divided betta tank. I've done it before and it's lovely to see the symmetry of the bettas. If you have plants and places for hiding they shouldn't flare so much they're exhausted. I'd go for that. :fun:

or simply use the big tank to house a community of other fishies!

i am planning on creating a mollies/guppies/platys community in a month or two.

you could just heavily plant it and add a few live bearers and 6 months later you'll have more fish then you know what to do with :p.

and as i just posted in another topic....... why do new members always flock to these old topics at once?

Data, be mindful of the original post date. This topic is over a year old.... not as bad as 4 years old in the other thread though

on another note how could one be so narrow minded as to just want a betta in a 55 gallon? there are so many better options . Not saying that a betta wouldn't be in heaven

All the same ( regardless of post age ) , the idea is an excellent one for something as close to a Biotope as you could get . A 55 gallon would be pretty much perfect to recreate a typical slice of a rice paddy. Even if you failed at growing rice ( you'd need the tank open topped of course ) for show, anything tall and long stemmed would be good enough, such as Vallis. A Plakat Male ( or better yet one of the rarer wild types ) and some other native fish ( or as close as in terms of geography that will co-habit with a betta ) and heavy planting would make for the perfect betta tank.
