Hi, Just a few questions about importing Bettas..

What are the laws/rules of importing Bettas?

Does it vary between different countries?

How much does it usually cost, for fish and for transport?

I would be grateful if you could answer any of my questions :) thanks

im just woundering why people import them, are they differnt from ones that you can get over here?

i guess its because they are cheaper to produce in other countries, which means people can invest more money/time into breeding better quality / more impressive bettas.. most of these countries wouldn't require heating so they cut down on costs that way.. i dont know!

Hi
Legally, to import a betta into the UK you have to use a transhipper. So although the Betta may be cheap you end up paying alot for the shipping. Some people have imported without using a transhipper but there are huge fines if you were to be caught.

ok well thats a start, thanks alot!

Most bettas advertised on aquabid etc. have transhippers in Germany for Europe.. i was going to question the german transhipper but i doubt they would understand my english

i'll give it a go :D

yup do not attempt to go without the law on your side, also check that the transhipper in Germany has the right to dispatch to the UK, as our laws are different to other countries and some people do not know this, also check that the betta comes with a heat pack, some charge you stupid amounts for a heat pack though. Shop around and ask as many questions that you can think about before committing to buying regardless how nice the betta is.

good luck

thanks!

my dad has a friend who moved to thailand, but has to come back to england 3 months a year because he isnt a full time resident there or something, i was gonna ask him to bring some back :( obviously he cant then. unless i get a vet to check them at the airport?? that sounds expensive so probably wont be able to do that..

OMG BIG BROTHER JUST GOT INTERESTING

If you want to import fish for ur self only, u can get a license from DEFRA.

To import to sell is very different and if caught with out paying the import charges and stuff, the fish will be destroyed!!!!!!!!
Safest way is to by from Daz ;)
