I've done this topic several times before but no luck... Is nobody up to the challenge?

Simply- what am I?

And to clarify somewhat;

It's defiinately from the pugnax complex and could either be betta Raja or betta enisae
not colourful enough for a simorum

do you know what they are? or have no idea

No idea. I've had it (pretty certain it's male) for ages, it came into the shop as pi but has no pi markings.

I did think it was more waseri group than pugnax, it's quite big and chunky (guesstimate 4"?). I should really keep a decent eye out for chin markings...

Edit- and definitely not raja or enisae. The tail isn't pointed, which rules out quite a lot.

Older, naffer image which isn't great on colour but does show fins better

The main issue appears to be that hardly any photos of species seem to agree with each other.

I've zoomed in on various pictures in an attempt to count the fin rays. Current estimates stand at-

Anal fin- ~27
Dorsal fin- ~9/10

Couldn't get a count of the tail.

Fishbase has a new identification thingummy, which didn't seem to help a great deal.

What about anabatoides?
