My first betta died 2day...

Could it be his was sick befor ei got him of could bad water be the cause...

all of sudden 2day was at the top of the tank struggling for water and jus laying there.

unfortanutely since i had been busy for the last couple days i had no time to throughly check the water ( i kno i kno.. dont kill me... im sad as it is already)

a couple days after i got him he began gettin very sluggish but i did move his air stone from the middle of that lil undergravel filter to help out a little.. he began swimming around alot after that.. no longer on the bottom of tha tank. i thought he was okay. he was even flarin at my other betta in the tank next to his.

he was in a one gallon tank on my desk next 2 my laptop. wen he died today he had wat looked like furry fngus all over him.. since this mornin really... he didnt have it last night tho.. i checked!....

oh my.. poor baby redz...

Water stats would of been good.
White furry fungus was that on him before he died or after.

sorry ... i was dumb and jus let the water in the tank go with him... i hadda put up the tank.. couldnt stand to look at his empty tank

and if was on him before.. and jus kept building up. could it be bad water?

If you live in the united states maracyn one and two.

Follow the instructions.
Keep an eye on water quality as maracyn can knock water stats.
Tank can go cloudy at first with maracyn, but it soon clears.
Increase aeration as meds reduce 02 in the water.

could the fish in the same water be affected with the same thing without contact?

Yes.
I would do some water changes and keep an eye on the other fish.

Bacteria lives in tanks so that why its important to keep up with water changes and gravel vacs.
Columnaris can be fetched on by stress, bad water quallity, over crowding, temp not being stable.
