Betta Help. Want To Spawn Them

the female has eggs, the male has his bubble nest, few spawning qestions. i read the fourm on how to spawn them and i still have a few qestions. is the bottem of the tank have to be bare? half full of water right? dose the female need lots of cover?i did not lots of cover. there is sand on the bottem. the female is in a 3 gallon and the male 10 gallon. so i put the female with the male and he started chasing her around and around the tank. they were up in the top conner when he had half of her tail in his mouth and it looked like he wanted to eat her. the female was beaten up and scared to death when i took her out. all advice needed . what do i do to make them spawn. the male wants to kill her. tell me every thing i need to know and what iam doing wrong. thanks
