Alright so a few days ago my betta fish started to look like he had a tumor on the right side of his under belly.
It grew larger so I decided to do a 50% water change and add 3 table spoons of dissolved aquarium salt
2 days later it looks like its POPPED >,..,<
So now I've done another fifty percent water change and made sure to clean the filters *Just wiggled them around in the fresh water then put them back in*

He's in a 20 gallon long (Running two aqueon filters with half the tank filled with live plants. Literally half the other is white sand split right down the center with river rocks)
stocked with
10 glo light tetra
3 african dwarf frog
2 amano shrimp
1 of himself a veil tail betta fish

I'm sorry I can't give an image but it looks exactly as it sounds a popped pimple. I'm sure we've all seen that. So as of now since it looks like a popped pimple it does look like an open wound.
His actions are completely the same he's a prick to the tetra's he chases the shrimp he goes for air he eats food he sleeps in his log. I've not noticed anything different about his actions.

Any idea on what it could of been? I've been considering it was a bacterial infection recently a friend thought it would of been cool to put "Duck weed" Into my aquarium so I spent an hour scooping all of it out and think I might of nicked him

Any idea's on what I could do to help him out other then water changes and the occasional spoon of aquarium salt?

*EDIT* Also its not related to over feeding he hasn't been fed in three days and the first day I noticed it I gave him a bit of pea to nibble on.

If it's an open wound then just try to keep water levels as good as possible so it has the best chances of healing up quickly. :good:

Try adding StressCoat+. It's water conditioner, but can be overdosed in emmergency. It has aloe vera, which helps reduce fish stress and has wonderful healing properties. It will also soothe the wound. :good:

DON'T USE MELAFIX, PIMAFIX, OR BETTAFIX
The tea tree oil damages anabatnoid's labyrinth organs, and they won't be able to breate air anymore, and will drown

Oh yeah i know I tried to treat my first betta with that stuff he drowned pissed me off so much that the medication meant to help him killed him. Thanks I'll check into doing that yeah it just well looks like what a wound would look like in water I'm wishing I didn't lend my camera to someone who's gone for a month x-x Would of had a clear image of it. Thanksfully he's been acting completely normal the past week so hopefully he'll heal up, he beat the fin rot he gained while sitting in his little cup at the fish store and I'm sure he can beat this.

I was just reading about what this is, I'll try to backtrack to find the web page about treating it. In the meantime I would recommend putting him in a 1 gallon hospital tank for treatment (medication residue can wreak havoc on bigger tanks) and add 2 tsp. of aquarium salt.

Ok just looked at a few articles and it sounds like it could be either external parasites or a bacterial issue.
If it is external parasites, the wound will respond to Jungle Fungus Clear or something similar for treating external fungus and parasites. If it's a bacterial issue it's probably a gram negative bacteria (simply because most betta problems are) so you'll want to try Maracyn 2 (not Maracyn 1). I would not undertake both treatments at the same time so you should try one first and see if it works. Personally I'd be more inclined to treat for fungus first.

Fungus is a consequence of either bacterial, parasitic infection or both. So starting with a pure fungus treatment is not a good idea but most fungus meds now teat bacterial infections too.

I recently came across a very interesting article about a natural remedy for fish called Usnic Acid. It treats a broad range of bacterial and parasitic infections but also has been found good on tumor like growths.
Here is the page where you can read about it and even purchase:
