I just picked up a new betta the other day for my 2gal hex. He looked great in the store, but I noticed yesterday he had started to get some white stuff on him. It's even worse today. I'm currently treating him with Pimafix (the only thing I could find to treat fungus at the LFS). The tank is now heated, and is at 78 degrees. What else do you suggest I do to treat him? The tank is uncycled, but has a running undergravel filter with pump, should I just unplug that for now to keep stress to a minimum and just keep up with water changes? Any suggestions would be great, I don't want to lose this guy like I did my last one... :-(

What does the white stuff look like? Is it cotteny, or does it look more like grains of salt? If it's cotteny looking, pimafix, or even just daily 100% water changes with salt should take care of it. I would only do a water change every 3 days when treating with pimafix though. Daily water changes will stress him out a lot more than nessicary(sp). If it is like grains of salt, it's itch. I have not had any personal experience with that so I can't really give you any advice on that. Good luck with your little buddy! Salt will help out either way though. Add 1 to 2 teaspoons per gallon and that should help you out.
