Here is a update on how the fry are doing, because of my crappy camera, i could only zoom in enough on the ones at the front of the tank...

This is 8 days after the spawning :) blimey time does fly past

Click here to watch video :)

Don't know anything about breeding fishies..was curious, are all the fry likely to live or do their numbers dwindle down as time passes?

Aint sure to be honest, this is my first time breeding bettas :)

This is my realistic targets with betta's

1st spawning, expect the male to eat free swimming fry. if 5-10 fry get passed that you got a good male.
2-3rd spawning, should be much better with fry and 10-30 fry.
After this point if he's a good male you may get 100 plus from each spawning.
(This is fry only only expect 5 or so fry to get to adult size, if you do that then your doing very well)

Fry success is also due to the owners experance of feeding fry, you lurn as well what the fry want and how much to add. Feed to much and not do water changes and your only have dead fry.

The next dodge point is a 2-3 weeks old the fry start to breath air, if this cooler than the water, or dry this will also kill the fry, so it may take you longer to lurn how to rear the fry then anything else, so by 5th time I would be be happy with getting 30 fish to adult size, and in around 3-5 months.

So basically
Novice breeder (owner not fish) - After 4-5 time you should now know what your doing and getting 30+ fry to adult.
Novice fish - first3 spawning's dont expect much unless you got a great male ;)

How do you make sure the air is the same temperature? my lid is sealed pretty good and the temp reading out of the water is the same as the reding in the water, is that right?

Looks like they've already taken the male out though, Think I remember 5teady saying he was going to take the male out when the fry were free swimming.

Yep i took him out after 48 hours of them hatching, they was all free swimming by then.. after a quick head count on them which is hard, i have counted approx 50 fry

5teady got it spot on just as the fry go free swimming you remove the male.

Also you got a great male to get 50 fry from your first spawning, when i first breed them in 1990 or so it took me several spanwing's before i got fry to adult size. (as i then got brine shrimp LOL)
At least now with the Internet it makes it easier to get every thing you need and help ofcourse ;)

Yep, i searched endless forums and sites for hours learning as much as possible (you forget easy though) and if i remember correctly, it was you m8 who helped me via pm with a loyof things :)

So thank you for that..

I also read a a site about microworms, brine shrimp etc.. i have now got a microwrm culture and also a few bottles setup to hatch fresh baby brine shrimp..

Im trying to get everything done right and look after them as much as possible, but i know i aint going to be easy :)
