I just went in and I found him on the bottom of the tank flaring. He's upright, but kind of limp. At first I thought he was dead, so i went in to net him out and he moved. So I netted him up and plced the net at the top of the tank. He's now brething at the waters surface. He seems very weak. And well my dad is not home.. and I don't really understand the test kit but I'll try:

Nitrate: below 40 ppm

Nitrite: uhmmmm not sure it is supposed to be a tan color but its white....

Alkalinity: supposed to be a peach color but its green. peach color is 120-300 ppm

pH: ideal. i guess

Please help! i have absolutley no idea what any of those readings are! or what nitrite, nitrate, or any of the other things are!

if i were you i would do a 50% water change asap and read up a little on bettas and fish care.

Ummm well sorry...i'm not very old. ummm sorry my dad helps me take care of them. He knows a lot about fish. I'll do a water change I guess. =/

Immediate water change and increase aeration.

What test kit are you using?
Ammonia and nitrite should be 0.

How many gallon is the tank.
How many fish and which type.

Cloudy eye is a symtoms of a desease not a desease in it's own right.
Causes.
Bad water quality.
Irratation.
Stress.
Old age.
Poor diet.
Injury.
Parasites.
Bacterial.

He did pass last night, but I would still like to know what happened. The tank is a five gallon eclipse and was home to him and two small algae eaters I recently added. I am using a test kit by the brand "Jungle" if that helps... I had also added 3 white cloud minnows on Friday, but quickly removed them as he attacked and killed one of them. The remaining two are now living in the community tank. Though I am pretty sure he went blind last night, as I released him from the net and he would keep bumping into the side of the glass and the filter. The algae eaters are doing fine and there none of the symptoms that he experienced. And if you are wondering what the algae eaters are, I'm really not sure. But they are not plecs, cories, or loaches. Please help if you can!

Post a pic of the algae eaters in tropical discussion. Member will soon tell you which type they are.

Without water stats it's hard to say.
How old was the fish.

If there plecs there massive waste producers and a five gallon tanks sounds way to small for them.

I'm pretty positive their not plecs but I'll check anyway. But the fish was about ehh...well I got him when he was an andult, and I purchased him about 6-7 months ago so around a year maybe? not quite sure...
