So, I put my betta in a new tank and I am now thinking I changed too many things to fast. Plus the tank wasn't the best for him (though I didn't realize until too late because I'm not always the most forward thinking). I just found him and did a water check after taking him out. The N2 and N3 levels were both at zero but amonia at .5 ppm. So, I think I added to much water too fast and the tank had to recycle itself. There are 3 platys in there right now that seem to be doing just fine. I did have the filter on, but I watched him swim to the surface yesterday and breath without problem. I didn't see any illness though, so maybe he wasn't doing as well as it appeared.

I don't plan on putting any more betta in there, that is for sure. So, do you think it was stress? I might get another one later, but not until I recycle the old tank (5 gal). I want to make sure I do things right. I feel bad for this guy :(

Sorry. Who knows exactly what it was. Your doing the right thing by recycling the aquarium before adding a new one.

The new tank is a 15 gal, tall. A little "taller" than the standard. I have posted pictures of it in another thread, I can link it if you want. I misuderstood the bacteria, thinking it was in the water not the rocks/filter. I know better now though. I am going to re-setup the old tank this weekend and when the water reads good (his rocks are still init) get another. This time, though, I will leave the fish in there and alone. I am moving the tank to a location where I know I won't be moving it again.

He wasn't very old, young when I bought him and I had only had him for 4 or 5 months. I don't even know if he was full grown yet.
