I have 8 gallon tank with 100 w heater, 120L/h internal filter, and air stone for Oxygen bubble. Betta fish only my tank. My tank is setup from last 21 days with betta fish.

Now I am thinking to add 6 Neon tetra and 10 Red cherry shrimp.

will it work out. I heard that Neon tetra will nip my betta and betta will eat shrimp.

And also read that they will work also.

I am now confuse.

Neon tetra's are known for being nippy and most people here will say don't try it. Also Neon's are very active fish and should be in more than 8g

I show this and I decide to go for it. tell me your tips I will be very glad to hear from you people.

It's a nice tank but it doesn't matter what it looks like ( you should add some more plants though, tall ones like Cabomba or Elodia would be great ) .

The tetras are a really bad choice for tankmates because they are well known for chewing bettas fins. They also need more space than your tank gives.

The tank is great for your betta though, a great size for a betta :good: and you could certainly have some cherry shrimp in there, and also a golden apple snail if you want a bright safe addition to your betta's home. He might chase them for a bit and possibly eat one or two but for the most part he'll probably leave them alone after he gets used to them.

No this is wrong when I add 8 Neon Tetra in my 8 gallon tank, few i can 5 - 10 minute betta chase them and after that he ignores him at all. And this is the third day where they are living and enjoying both

For my tank size u can see this My tank it is howing almost correct

I also agree that bettas and neons don't mix, infact I don't think bettas should be kept in community tanks at all ( not males anyway ) but we each have our own way of doing things, you have decided to do this so see how they get along, just make sure you have a back up plan such as a spare tank to remove the betta into if it all goes wrong you may have more of a chance if they are in a bigger tank. Just the other day I went into a petshop and saw a very sad sight  a male betta was in a tank with a large shoal of neons and they had completely shredded all his fins, he looked so miserable I very nearly bought him home with me but decided not to as I would just encourage them to do it again to another unfortunate betta, the tank couldn't have been much larger than yours ( 30-40 litres ) they also had mbu puffers crammed into at least 5 different tanks with barely enough room to turn around it was heart breaking :-(

You've had a couple of members who are quite knowledgeable about bettas tell you that stocking isn't a good idea. Nothing about stocking is written in stone, if you want to try stocking that may be somewhat questionable it is best to have a backup plan. In your situation it would be a second tank with a heater & cycled filter for either the betta or the neons.

Hands on knowledge will beat a computer program any time when it comes to animals.

People like this really seriously irritate me. If you're going to do it anyway regardless of being told it isn't a good idea, and why due to experience, observation and well known fact, then why bother asking on here? :sly:

I have Mr. Wimpy Fish in with 5 neon tetras in my 10-gallon tank. It works for me, and there's also some platies, a guppy fry (who nipped at his tail, wondering about him; well, he chased after it, and it didn't bother him again :lol: ), 2 cories, and 4 WCMM. ^^; It works, and Mr. Wimpy Fish is *sorta* nipped-up, but I think this is only temporary. ^^;

I am not irritating but thing is that you only telling that neon tetra will not work with betta but more than 80% people is telling that neon tetra are peaceful fish. Today is my fifth day of neon tetra and betta they are going very cool nobody of them harm each other.

Check this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-P2xqZMI8E

Then also I will see anything I will come with result are they okay or not with betta

I have seen it work with neons, harlequins and rummy nose tetras and there is a trick around it.

First have the tetras in the tank and make sure they are settled. Then when you feed next time dump in the food and then chuck in your betta. For some reason they dont think the betta is food.

Just my two cents.

I didn't say it absolutely doesn't work, only that a vast number of times it is proven not to. Which is why we advise not to, to save you and your fish having to find out, and in the fishes case, suffer for it , all because you fancied some neon tetras.

80% of people in this thread have NOT told you it was fine so that's plain wrong. we told you quite the opposite .

Also, your tank actually isn't big enough in length for neons, who despite their small size, like a fair bit of space to swim up and down the length in as large a group as possible. A 20 gallon is better for a shoal of neons. Small fish do not always require small tanks purely because they are small.

milindsaraswala, i fully agree with the others. If you have already added the Neon tetras in, why ask if they are compatible etc.

*As it is your tank is no where near mature enough for Tetras, they need a tank of atleast 6 months old.
*Secondly, Neon Tetras should not be placed in the tank size you have. IMO 12G minimum.
*Thirdly, Neon tetras might be *peaceful fish* with some other species but most of the time, if not all they have a tendancy to bully long-finned fish. This stress on your betta is not good, and could potentially shorten his life.

It is a hit and a miss chance, i would not have advised you to add them with your betta.

As far as Ghost Shrimp go, they also need a 6 month mature tank but they are would be fine in that tank as long as you have a friendly natured betta that wont snack on them.

Hope that helps, and hope that you take on the advise given by all the experienced members who have replied to this post. :)
