hey y'all

Have kept several bettas over the years. Now decided I'd like to have a go at breeding them. I have been doing some research but still unsure about a few things

The actual tank setup; roughly what size of tank should I have? Can it be to big? I was going to get them into my old Juwel 60 L. Would that be fine? Also what about gravel, plants etc?

Back to the actual breeding. In terms of acquiring strain how should I start of?

Sorry for seeming such a noob...

Thanks in advance.

Have a look at the link on my siggie its Netty and Bronze's site lots of useful info

the spawning tank cant really be too big and the best way to aquire good breeding fish is to look at what people want the types of fish in demand what you like and pick a good quality pair an import or from a private breeder. I should have some pairs ready in a week or so if your interested give me a PM

Tilly :good:

As Tilly said there is lots of info on breeding on our website :good:

The Jewel 60 would be fine. I'm currently using a Jewel Record 70 for spawning in. You need it to be bare bottomed with no more than 6" of water, plants and half a floating polycup. We also use sponge filters so no chance of the fry being sucked up!!!

That's bits easy enough. Both male and female need to be very well conditioned before breeding and the hard part is when you have to house 80 or more individual babies and do water changes every day lol

Even the best planned spawns can go wrong and we're no exception. You just have to restart and try again. There are lots of reasons why spawns don't work and then if you get past the spawning stage alot of us have had their males then eat all the eggs!!!

Just make sure you've researched as much as possible and have everything set up correctly that you will need. Then when the time comes there are people here who can help you out :good:
