Hehe just posted in it. Very purdy male you have :drool: Oo!! I just thought... if you manage to breed you're white/pearly female with Hugh, then we'd both have Cambodian spawn :hyper: :hyper: if we do, can we do a swap of some our spawn to see what colourations we can get. Can you get cambodian butterfly VT's?!? :hey:

I should really start a poll lol. Oh well! right the votes so far are:

Tor Fin = 3
FireFin = 0
Ruby = 1
Steel = 2
LoveJuice = 1

Anyone else got an opinion to which female I should try and breed with my male??

(the ones in red are my personal favs, but I want to know what you all think, see as this will be to teach me about breeding and they've got to be nice for my LFS)

Tor Fin = 4
FireFin = 0
Ruby = 1
Steel = 2
LoveJuice = 1

It's looks like Tor Fin is the favourite :good: Any other votes??

I would breed with which one is the tartiest! :blush: 2 of my little girls are always sporting breeding stripes if they come in a mile of one of my boys!

Hehe well it is really up to which one wants him (like you said the tartiest), but none have seen him yet. Apart from LJ and that was only briefly as I set him on my bed (in his bag ) to quickly make some last minute adjustments to his tank before floating him. She got strong vertical bars, then suddenly went very pale and showed stess bars. Silly fish.. silly me for thinking she couldn't see him sitting 4 feet away. Anyway, votes?? lol

i would put your steel or tor with him!
he looks amazing!
mine are going to take longer to condition now due to me getting new boy ;)

Just to make sure (not that I doubt my LFS, they do have very strict views on other tail types) but does anyone think that these's are anything other than VT's?

Thanks

they look kinda like pk's to me, but its hard to tell from the angle of the photos and stuff,

I'll try and get better pics. Strange if they are pk's, because they get all their bettas form the same place and always order VT's.... hmm anyone else?? I don't really want to breed pks with a VT. Could it be because they are young that they look possibly pk?

If the pet store orders their males and females from the same place, and the males are all VT, then the females are likely VT's too. Females fins can vary in length even on a VT. The only true way would be to breed one of the females in question with a longfin male, then do an F2 cross. If you get Plakats, then the original mom is a Pk. And since Pk is recessive, neither sex of bettas can "carry" plakat- they either are or aren't. And if the pet store claims to only get in VT's, listen- Pet Stores don't know much about fin types. I've seen numerous places selling plakat males marked as females. They just don't know and don't care, as long as they sell the fish they're happy.

Don't worry. I've already had my fair share of dodgy FS. This one actually knows what it's talking about... which is impressive after hearing some of the horror stories on here lol. But seeing as I'm going to be breeding them anyway I'll have to try an F2 cross, just to see if there is a dormant Pk gene in the mix somewhere. :good:
