Ok so I have a male and female (not bought from LPS, I placed the female in a tall glass jar and put the jar into my 2ft tank with 100cm water and no pump etc.
Put Zoomie Mk3 (Betta Male) into the tank and the Flaring commenced. Good start.
2 days later he is still flaring and no bubble nest !

Can anyone offer any tips ?

How do you know when to release the female ?

have you conditioned them with a high quality diet?
what set up do you have for the hundred of fry you may have? from an early age (a few weeks) every male needs to be separated into his own container and also some females will have to be as well - - meaning, that before you breed you need accomodations for hundreds of fish. Also, you need to know how you will rehome these fish once they grow old enough. most pet stores will not take them in.
If you do not know the genetic history of your bettas, then you are breeding mutts - these have little to no value and will not be worth the massive amount of work you need to do during breeding and raising.

lastly, some pairs are not compatible. if he is still flaring and not building a nest, and if she is not noticeably egg bound then one will end up killing the other when you put them together. they are obviously not in a breeding mood right now.

take this time to do the research.

Hi. As Jenste asked did you condtion them for 10-14days before ? Also its a good idea when their almost in condition to put the male and female where they can see each other and the male should hopfully start building the bubble nest (he doesnt always though, each fish is different) When the male has built a nest then is a good time to release. You could also try putting the female into the same tank as the male but in a jar of similar this can also help encourage the male to build, but you must condition them with frozen and/or live food before.

HI
How about putting your male and female together where they can interact, part of the courtship is for the male to chase and unfortunately beat up your female, during this process he will also make a bubble nest! Does the female have ventrical lines on her body as these are signs of breeding! be careful with colourful females as they may be males as that of the wild, us humans have bred males to have longer fins although some males have not been bred to do so.
In a female you should be able to see a white dot on there underside known as the ovipositor.
