Hi gang

I've got a problem with my step-son's siamese fighter displaying and attacking my two adult Kribs. I've had the fighter isolated in a breading tank for now, but does anyone have an idea why he should start giving the Kribs a hard time now ?? They have been tank-mates for about 3 months and I've not noticed any trouble before.

Any ideas ?? Am I going to have to separate them ??

Thanks

Phil.

He woke up on the wrong side of his cave this morning ? The Kribs have paired off and started the offensive ?
One of the Kribs decided to chase him first ?

We're talking adult kribs here, right ? They can stand up for themselves, the problem is they don't understand this threat behaviour and he doesn't understand theirs. Now that it's started I would reccomend separation, it only becomes more likely to continue.

If this is a pair of kribs it is likely that the Betta is going to get killed. Remove him. When the kribs breed they will do the Betta in if he invades their space.

All of the above by Glod is probable

Thanks for the advice guys. I did have a third Krib which the Fighter was "having a go at" first, to the point where this Krib actually got injured, infected and died, so I think I'll keep them separated for now. I'm not sure if the remaining Kribs are a "couple" so to speak, but I don't want to loose any more. It's definately the fighter who is on the offensive, so I guess he just doesn't like to share with the Kribs anymore !!

Thanks again guys.

Phil.

In general bettas are not community fish its probably going to be better to get him his own tank

Well that's a story to tell: The Betta did the krib in!

But, I'm sorry about the krib. It is good to do the research before the event. Not many would Betta keepers and maybe none with experience would agree to put a krib and a Betta together--let alone a group of kribs. When kribs start to spawn they can get very territorial and aggressive, including to their own kind--or so I have been told and witnessed on the boards/forums.
