Hi All

I thought I would start a thread, where we could add little hints and tips on kitting out tanks/aquariums for bettas.

For me, my little tips are;

* Plants plants plant - any size, a mixture really, high floating to low and moss.

* Hiding places/shelters - coconut huts, ceramic pots

* Pebbles/stones - I find that my female bettas like to nosy around big pebbles, burying themselves in them

* Used sand for a flooring substrate, rather than gravel. I only say this as I have noticed that bettas (females in particular), like to sit at the bottom of the tank and again, poke about in the sand.

What are your tips, that you might think others could try out?

sponge filter 100%. they are terribly simple to make (take someone with NO experience about 15 minutes) and most of us have the materials just laying around anyway.

Have a bing bong ball sometimes floating on the top of the surface - gives them something to play with and prevents them from getting bored and biting their tail.

yes well planted. and places to hind is another good one... and a filter that wont ruin their tail... something like a under-gravel filter or like above a sponge filter

A varying diet seems to have brought out the colours in my babies (3 males and 2 females in varying tanks) an absoloute treat. I feed them on, Hikari betta biogold (staple) algae wafer (usually nicked from kuhli loach/plec/cories) bloodworm and daphina (treat once in a while) and stangley they seem to love cichlid pellets made by new era i only discovered this after one of my males wolfed down one that accidently went in his tank. Peas and cucumber are obviousely always great too :good:
