I have 5 zebra danios and a rubbernose pleco and a platy, in a cycled tank (10 gallon) and i wanted to add a betta, i have a dysplay for bettas but its very small. so i am wondereing if i can have the betta in the tank with the danios and platy?

its a hit and miss really as i do know of some of my customers that have them with danios but i never recommend it b/c danois are nippy but at the end of the day the betta display is not a good idea to keep a betta in either.

Some bettas are ok with company, others will be fine for a while and then go on a rampage, and still others will try and kill any other fish in sight. Its really just a gamble to see whether you have a friendly betta or not. If you realy have your heart set on having a betta I would also buy an extra 1-2 gallon tank and pull him out of the 10 gallon at the first sign of aggresion. If he is happy then you have a spare qt tank which is realy very inexpensive. If he is not happy and friendly you have a good place to go with him.

my danios are really friendly, i have had lots of fish with them and they never nipped. will that affect anything?

how about a male PK? Some are quite nicely coloured these days :good: Shouldn't get nipped by the danios, may have to watch him though in case he decides to hound the danios. Modaz will know if this would work :good:
Diesel in my sig is a pk and guppy_man has one called Taj

i ahve been away from the forum, so whats a PK?

i am from canada, so i only find the VT and the occasional CT.

it's becoming very common for people to take advise but to say that their fish are placid so should be ok with a betta, i used to say to people "no dont do it" but times are changing and even though i still disagree with the housing of betta in the community with fin nipping species such as danios (if they see a large flowing fin, temptation mostly gets the better of them) all i now say to people is have a back up plan if it starts to go wrong, by all means give it a go if you feel that is the right thing but your back up plan should be a spare tank. This doesnt have to be cycled either.

thanks modaz, i do have a back up plan, if my danios fin nip the betta i will place in a divider that my father and i made. but i want to see if the danios will accept the betta first.
