my brother told me today, that different tailed bettas are more agressive then others. like crown tails for instance. the thing is i am planning for a second betta tank with a male fishy. turns out rayne is indeed a pretty girl.
does the agressive nature mean they are less interactive with there owners?
or does it mean they are harder to breed?

I've heard that too - that crowntails are more agressive, and things like that. But, the thing is, I've had CTs, VTs, and SDs, and the CTs were the complete sweethearts of the bunch. My VT males wanted nothing to do with other fish. I never tried with my SD, but my CTs have always been fine with other fish.

Of course, it depends on the personality of the fish, too. They're all different. If you got two CT males from the same spawn, one could be friendly and love the company of other fish, while the other might hate anything that comes within a five foot radius of his tank. It all depends on the betta.

Well i really discredit that from the bettas i've had. i have heard the pitch that crowntails are more feisty, etc. i really think that idea spawned from some excited betta owners that think they have an aggressive fish.

My crowntails are pretty dosile. One however is a terror that flares every time you approach the tank. he then proceeds to flare at your finger and his food while you feed him. soooo, maybe i have some calm crowntails and one normal one, but i really dont see this correlation between finnage and aggressiveness. obviously there could be a genetic trait that results in crowntail and "spunk", but i think it's a bit of a myth.

Two of my five bettas are hand tame and both of them are CTs. I have also heard this myth, it sounds like rubbish to me. I think they are like all animals, if you socialise them when they're young they are okay. I've even heard of full brother males born together, raised together and living together with no aggression, but never seen the proof.

Hi
I dont think there is any specific differences in aggression between tail types, apart from my male PK shows quite a high level of aggression. But then i suppose he is more directly related to the types used for fighting back in their native land.
I think its more when your spawning the idea that ct's are more aggressive has arisen. HM's with lots of finnage are not as fast as CT's, so a CT is more able to catch the female when she is attempting to get away from him, thus possibly resulting in more damage.

Asthetically, I think that CT's appear more aggressive due to the way they look?

Agreed. I think PK's are certainly the exception to the myth considering they were initially bred for fighting.
