As above really i went out lat night, checked all the fish, nothing visibly wrong with them, came back this morning and my betta has got a furry wooly patch on one side! How can i treat this, ive only had the fish three days, is it probably diseased?? Shall i get a quarantine tank??

need help asap!

Hi

Sounds like a fungal infection. What are the tank stats -

size
temperature
tankmates
filtered yes/no
how long has the tank been set up
do you have recent water stats i.e. ammonia etc

hiya, its my girlfriends fishtank, exactly the same as mine, hers has been going for just over 4 weeks now,
tank size: L: 24 x W: 12 x H: 15

done a 20% water change jus before she got the betta which was about 3-4 days ago,

PH: 7.6
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Natrate: 5.0

do i need to get some anti fugus then

Hi

Sorry just a couple more questions :) What temperature is the tank? and are there any tankmates?

If its white and fluffy like cotton wool, then it yeh its more than likely fungus. Possibly brought on by stress of moving. For fungus we have used a product by a company called "Waterlife". Cant remember its actual name though, but its the same people who make Myxacin.

hiya, theres 4 danios in the tanks and a plec!

have u got a link to where i could buy this stuff from plz??

is this infection fatal???
or is it curable with good results??

Hi

Its curable :good: If you can isolate him it would be best, then treat with an anti-fungal treatment. Works best if you can raise the temp to 80 degrees. Just follow the instructions on the product.

Keep an eye on your other fish for any signs of the fungus on them, but hopefully as you have only just got the betta they may be ok.

When your betta has recovered, make sure the temp in the main tank is about 76 degrees though as bettas dont like it cold :good:

P.S i'll look for a link, but can you not nip to your local fish shop, would be better to get treatment started sooner rather than later.

There's some on here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WATERLIFE-Protozin-6...%3A1|240%3A1318

unfortunatly i wont be able to isolate him im afraid, ive inspected the other fish and they all look fine!!

im jus gonna nip down the pet shop now!
im gonna raise the temp up abit aswell!

thanks for ur help!

Hi

Check that the Plec is ok with the treatment before you add anything. I'm not that up to speed on plecs, so best to check first :good:

oh, and if you are using carbon in your filter, you will need to take it out before treatment :good:

carbon has to be removed when you treat with meds because carbon draws stuff out of the water. you want your meds to stay in the water to treat the fish not be sucked right out.

hiya, well its not looking too good for my betta, the wooly patch is spreading on to his other side, he cant rly swim and is now just hovering around the top of the tank!

What shall i do??
i rly dont want him to die!!!

Hi
Did you get any fungal treatment stuff? Have you got a container you could float in your tank? Something that would hold around a litre would do for now. Or if you can find a plastic tupperware type container and can keep it warm use that. You'll just have to change some water in it each day while he is being treated. If you did get the treatment be sure to work out the correct amounts for a smaller body of water though.

ye ive got the exact treatment you told me to, i applied it correctly!! and removed the carbon from the filter!
shall i just get a container and float it in the tank then using the same tank water?? and then re- apply the treatment into that water??
if so how will i know how much treatment to apply to that water??
