I have a 10gal with one male beta.  Is their anything that could go with my beta and not bother each other? He was very agressive when I first got him and have never tried to put anything else with him.  He used to flare at the fish in the neighbor tank, but after having him almost 2 years now, he does not seem as agressive.  He was originally in a 5 gal, but I have been doing some upgrading and switched him to a 10 gal this past week.

In a 10gal I say thats fine, Bettas prefer to be by themselfs anyway.

If you want some more fish, I would suggest shrimp.

White cloud mountain minnows make good tank mates. They are faster swimmers than bettas, and they wont nip him.

From having 10 + betas and breeding them, i would say not to keep any tank mates with a betta unless its snails. Smaller fish tend to be nippy and aggravate bettas! I would personally stay away from shrimp too, as your betta will see them as a tasty treat!

1 apple snail would be nice, they come in all sorts of colours; oink and purple too! :)

Thanks for the advise, sounds like he will be staying alone.  I might look into the snail though.

I have pygmy cories with mine. They are tiny, fast swimmers, very pesceful and mainly spend time at the bottom so don't bother the betta at all. A group of 6 would be perfect in your size of tank.

I think a shoal of minnows would look really good. Just looking at your heater 'leader of the fish', and just wondered if you have seen the new led display heaters. They are very accurate, give off a small amount of light for night time and means you can get rid of your thermometer to de clutter the tank. Just a thought and a little off topic.
