hi im soon going to transfer my plec to my larger tank whats the best way to transfer a plec to a larger tank without stressing it to much? i was going to use an ice cream tub but has anyone did this? thanks joe

A couple of years ago I transferred a 13 inch pleco from a 35G to a 75G. I just bought the largest net I could find, then very gently put it around him. His tail was hanging out of the net, but he was extremely calm through the whole thing, and never attempted to thrash or jump. I then lowered the net into the new tank, and slowly removed it from him. Even then, he didn't quickly swim away or freak out. He just calmly glided off like nothing had happened.
Hope your experience is as good as mine!

if it's over any distance I suggest using a medium to large cooler. I'm concerned about using nets because my ten inch plec's barbels got caught in the netting and he was hung up on it. It was awful trying to pull the net free without hurting him. I think next time i'll use a very deep cup with an algae wafer in it

Best way I've found is to get a large clean glass container with a piece of zuccini in it. Put this in the tank, and wait. It isn't too long before the plec is munching away, lift out the container, plec & all. Nets are rough on plecs, once they stick out those spiny fins & barbels they get hung. It can be a battle to free them, sometimes injury occurs.
