Alright so my aunt passed away last sunday morning. She had at least 4 55 gallon tanks and I think a 20 gallon. Last I knew she had discus and angel fish. All were around 4-5 inches and that was about 8 months ago so they are probably reasonably bigger now. Her husband is not a fish person at all, and wants the fish out. I'm probably going to take 2 of the larger tanks and possibly the smaller one if it is still set up this afternoon, and what ever else she had set up next week. What I need to know is whats the best way to move all those fish and tanks? They only live about 15 minutes from me so I'm not too worried about the distance part of the move.

Bag up all the fish, and empty the tanks then get a van to move the tanks. The filters should be kept in a bucket of water.

For the bigger fish, you probarly wont be able to bag them so just put them in a bucket with the old tank water. it might be benificial to ast them the day before the 'move' so ammonia in buckets/bags are kept minimum.

Ive got a few bags for smaller fish, but I was told moving them in buckets was a bad idea or is that for long distance moves?

bad Idea? not that i know of, know a fea people who have moved house etc, and put there fish in buckets. :)

Thats what I've done for my smaller fish in the past I was just wondering cause these will be bigger.

Spot on, asslong as you are no shaking up the bags and buckts everything should go very smooth.

Thanks for the input. I just finished up about 20 minutes ago. We ended up moving 5 tanks(2 45-55 gallons, 1 20 gallons, and 2 10 gallons), 2 stands, and a bunch of supplies. The fish ended up being 4 angels(1 breeding pair and 2 singles), 2 plattys, and 4 neons. Thankfully my sister took one of the angels that was living on its own with one of the big tanks, and stand so I didn't have to deal with all that extra water. It took 6 1/2 hours to break down all the tanks, move everything, haul all the clean water, and set up the tanks that needed to be set up. I feel bad for my sister cause after helping me she had to go home and set up her tank on her own cause it was so late wen we got back here still having to deal with our own set up issues, and she has to work tonight on very little sleep  Oh well it was worth it. There are still 2 45+ gallon tanks and 2 stands that need to be moved out of there..... Note to self never agree to take on so many tanks and such when 29 weeks pregnant!

shoudnt you be a little in mourning no offense? im mean, its just that your aunt just died and all.
