I gave a 29 gallon planted tank and my light always seems to be on too long so I can enjoy the tank, so what's the best timer I can get, around $30 and less. I want to set it so it goes on at 7:00 AM I feed then it goes off at 8:30 AM then back on at 3:00 PM and off at 9-9:30 PM would this stress the fish out too much if I turned it on and off at different times?

It would be better for you plants to have all of their photosynthesis period in one go. Aim for 8 hours a day.

No idea on timers, i just use any, all are pretty much the same. :good:

What time would you suggest? I don't want to interfere with feedings though. I feed flake and bottom feeder tab innmorning and flake and algae tab at night. Soon I'll feed frozen brine and bloodworm at night too.

What tank is this in?

Lighting won't interfere with feeding, youcan feed whenever you want.

Although, your feeding does sound alot... :look:

My 29 gallon

I do w/c once a week all perimeters are good

I would cut out the bottom feeder tablet in a morning if it was me. Break the one up in the evening into 4 pieces. That will be plenty for your Oto's.

Also, only feed live food twice a week and when you do don't feed the other evening food.

Just what i would do...

Ok I don't feed all this ATM. So I'll follow your advice I just trimmed the amazon sword a little of a few during leaves. I actually have 5 Otos now just havent updated my sig.

I would still say that 1 algae tab a day would be sufficient for them. Maybe you could try them with a bit of Cucumber or Corgette (Zucchini?)

Just mix the food up, doesn't have to be at set times. Have a good staple and then a treat or two a week. Don't worry about lights being on or off either.

ok. I actually just lost an oto as I said I had 5. So now sig is updated. Must of been bad to begin with. I got that specific one Friday so he only lived 3 days. Maybe he didn't adjust very well to my water... The others are doing great

Ok so how does this feeding sound soon I'll have 7 Otis in the main tank. Moving my 3 from my fry tank over once all the algae gone.
Crunch up algae wafers and bottom feeder tabs into 4 pieces. 4 wafer pieces and 2 bf tab pieces at night. Flake every morning and night. (I always do small amounts, but my fish seem to like the little overfeeding I do :) ) then either live or frozen bribe shrimp Monday nights and frozen bloodworm Thursday nights. The frozens will be once I have the gouramis in so tank will be fully stocked. Until then just the regular feeding. That sound good? Mornings is just flake and 1 piece of bf tab.

On Monday's and Thursday's no flake.

Thanks for the help :good:
Now back to my question does anybody know of a good timer for about $30 and less.

Looking at the marineland PA0401 aqua timer. Sounds reliable and only $6. Anyone use or used this timer? Is it good?
