Hi all,

I have a dark sand/dark background Roma 125l which I am currently emopty & cycling and all seems to be well :good: I would like suggestions of what to stock alongside a pair of kribs or single krib (not decided yet).

I'd like something I can have a good number of, so nothing too large, and something that will stand out against the dark background. Was thinking tiger barbs but from what I have researched that is asking for trouble!

Any ideas?

A shoal of Ember tetras would look good against a dark background

Thanks.

The colour on them is fab, however I think I would probably want to go for something a bit bigger - say 4/5cm? Are there any tetras or barbs which match that description? The tank is across the room and I'd be hard pushed to spot these little guys!

I forgot to mention - I already have zebra danios and cardinals in another tank and want something different for this one.

rummynose tetras sound like just the thing you are after for size etc. they grow to about 5cm and school very nicely.

they do prefer mature tanks so make sure your water is spot on

Are Yellow Tail Congo Tetras or African Red Eye Tetras available in your LFSs? There are some online stores that stock these and other African schooling fish (taking into account Congo Tetra are too big long term for a 125l... but you could look into making your 200l an African setup and that would work), that will send fish by courier.

I'd worry about Rummynose, they school near the tank floor where the Krib will be at its most territorial, plus they are not robust enough to take many blows at all from your "moody cow" female Krib.

Think I have seen red eyes, that could work. I have been thinking of moving some fish around... Hmmm! Decisions decisions!

How about five banded barbs? Very similar to tigers, but way, waaaay less nippy.

Ooh really like them :good: although not seen them in my LFS I don't think  - are they hard to come by? Or have I perhaps just overlooked them thinking they were tigers...

I don't think they're terribly hard to come by, no; my LFS certainly usually has them in.

Thanks fluttermouth. I don't know why I didn't know about these guys, they are just as good looking than the tigers in my opinion.

Pentazona barbs can have a nice pink colouration when mature, would certainly recommend them too :)

Black Neons will go well with Kribs as a dither fish, red eyes already mentioned are a great option.

Maybe noen tetras stand out about 7-10 of them or harlequins i really like about 9 of them other tetras and rasboras.

How about zebra danios?

They're lively, hardy, grow to a decent size but not too ridiculous n will eat almost anything.

Nah, already have some in my other tank - and personally I find them a bit dull : Mine are always full of eggs and they are constantly trying to think of new & inventive ways to end their lives. The most recent one got himself wedged behind the filter - I am not even sure how that was possible
