hi guys

i currently buy my livestock from here but i'm wondering if there's a stockist in scotland that would be considered even better or as good? these guys are great with a good selection, however wouldn't do me any harm to have another couple of places to frequent ;)

Hi there, its probably a bit far away for you if you're near Fife but I've dealt with A1 aquatics on constitution street in aberdeen before and the guy there, although a bit of a rogue was really helpful and honest advice too. The shop made it into Practical Fish Keeping Mags top 40 retailers of 2004. Looks abit rough on the outside but lovely fish inside and a gorgeous marine section downstairs too. not very big though... Worth a look if you're up that way though.
:D

thanks peediepixie, not been up aberdeen way for a few years now but i'll keep it in mind, the urge for a summers drive up to your end of the country might come over me next year :) .

i noticed a place called 'house of pisces' (dundee) in the yellow pages, seen a couple of posts about the place on other boards, seems they have a good selection of fish but don't look after them 100% so not sure. it's closer though so i might pop up for a look.

thanks again

I used t go to house of pisces before they moved a few years ago. Though they have lots of fish i found their tanks dirty and a lot of sick fish as well. Dont know if its changed much over the years, but its the same guy running it.
Isnt there still someone in Tayport selling fish? Leuchars had a small but friendly one going as well, but I am talking about 10 years ago lol.. The one here in Lossiemouth is pretty good but not worth the drive up. I liked the fish shops in Edinburghs leith walk.

I was in the House of Pisces recently (two weeks ago.)

A few of their tanks were in questionable state (somewhere in the region of 5 tanks, which out of nearly 1000 isn't too bad.)

Some of the fish were not in the most ideal sized tanks, infact maybe a bit too much on the tight side full stop, but I had to question the permanent home, just how long would those fish be in those tanks for.

Other than that, the staff (the fish staff anyway) were knowledgable about their subject.

I think it would be a case of paying particular attention to the tanks you are buying from, spend a couple of weeks visiting the store to monitor the tanks yourself.

My uncle breeds fish and I am hoping to see his collection shortly. I will find out if he would sell direct (I by no way honour his methods etc, i've not seen it myself.)

I think i'll pop over to cupar this weekend to take a look at that aquatics place though, pending passing this bloody driving test on Friday.

House of Pisces has 1000 tanks? wow thats a lot more than when he had his shop in Hiltown.
I need to go visit lol.

according to the bumpf you can get, 1000 tanks and over 30,000 fish, though I think a large number of the fish and tanks are quarantine ones closed to the customer.

Yeah A1 is something else huh. The guy there is a laugh, never heard as someone swear so much over fish :grr: F***ing amateurs, do it proplerly... Fish are stunning there. If you are up in my area you must go to Holburn tropicals. Its a small shop in aberdeen near the big asda but the woman there really knows her stuff. Ive never seen a sick or dead fish, her tanks are clear and she always has about 5 or 6 fish ive never even heard of before :)
