Best Kit-style Tank For Betta?

My guy's bubble nest ended up the same way when he was in his bowl... I think the opening of the bowl is small enough that the bubbles just sort of creep out of nest formation and line the perimeter. BTW, I am hearing constant praise for the Minibow (2.5g OR 5g) from tons of betta specialists. Don't go with eclipse systems; they are fabulous but their filters are too strong for bettas.
They are too strong for them? I have a five gallon with my crowntail in it and he has never gotten stuck or had trouble near it. Haha I would have bought a minibow, but I have like 4 tanks and my mom says if I get any more it would look ugly in my new room so *Sigh* No more fishes for me =(

Would you have prefered a mini-bow over a five-gallon if possible? What kind of five gallon do you have. . .does it have bubble from the filter?

I keep going back and forth on what I want to do. Sort of concerned that the camallanus that my guppies have will be impossible to be disinfected from the Eclipse 3-gallon I have (which I could put the Betta).

Someone suggested I put my guppies in a 10-gallon and try treating them with Levamisole, then putting the Betta in the Eclipse. Lots of choices, but not sure if my Guppies can be saved and my Beta is too pretty to risk possibly becoming sick.

The Betta is already building another nest. Now it's all in one corner. . .unlike before. Seems like he's practicing. Gotta get him a girl ;)
hmmm probably not. A five gallon would be bigger, but more expensive. The minibows at my lfs are only like $20. I have an eclipse 5 gallon. I think it's very nice. been up and running for over three years now. Amazing how its handled all the torture....I didn't know anything about fish before...this was my first stocking lol: 3 mollies, 1 tiger barb, a mickey mouse platy, and two guppies. Isn't that horrible? I was like 8 lol.

well first no need to get a heater that you turn off you will flux the temp difference to much todays heaters auto shut off and sometimes flicker on just for a sec to make a constant temp thats prime for your betta i would suggest a 10gal though and hears why bettas dont live alone in the wild with a ten gallon you can get a couple blue gourami another fish native to the same area prolly same rice field lmao if you dont wont the kit just get the heater and go to walmart or some bigger stores they usually have a ten gal stripped to just the tank itself for like 12-15bucks however kits when it comes to brand new stuff is cheaper just keeping checking craigslist though something new everyday you might go buy a kit and the next day someone selling their 10gal full set up with everything for 20bucks and u just spent 50 on yours so be patient and figure out your method

Thanks...

I had posted this about three weeks back and ended up getting both a 3-gallon eclipse and a 10-gallon that I set up on my own. I did buy the 10-gallon with a stand and the set up was used. The guy waited until I drove home (30-45 minutes later to tell me he washed everything with handsoap. . .so I only used the stand and bought a new tank.

Since I had to quickly upgrade because two of my bettas were in small bowls, I put the male in the 3-gallon and the female in the 10-gallon. Both are okay, but I would think the male would be best off in a 5-gallon. At some point he'll be upgraded.

ahh good news to hear but they are lovin their new room check out the region they come from get em a few cheap tank buddies keep em happy although if your male is a jerk none will do lol

Hi PetCo has a really nice set, it is 5 gallon Aqueon bowfront tank that comes with a filter with a low current, it is around $60. They also have another one; 5 gallon split tank for housing 2 different types of fish (it has a peice of acrilc that goes down middle or you can leave it out) with an undergravel filter (again little to no current created), it is also around $60. You can probably find simmilar setups at Walmart for even cheaper, or check online. Most kits, at least all the kits I have seen do not come with a heater. PetCo sells a 25W (good for smaller aquariums) heater where you can adjust the heat settings to where you want, I have never used one of thier heaters but I heard the are pretty good, and they do shut off once the heat setting is reached, they are around $30 as well. I am also sure that PetSmart would also carry similar products for roughly the same price as PetCo. Just be warned if you buy your heater from Walmart, they do not shut off once the heat setting is reached. It may just be me but I bought one from there is said it shuts off but it did not I exchanged it .... long story short I went through 4 heaters none of them shut off so I finally just returned it and ordered on on-line.

Thanks. I've been pleased with the Eclipse line of stuff and found a marineland 25-watt heater at a small local pet store for $22.99 and that's in my 3-gallon. Then a larger 50-watt in the 10-gallon and am slowly adjusting the heat.

I'm wary of buying a heater that doesn't shut off, so it is worth it to me to spend a bit more to get one that is more reliable.

For the filter current, I've been using filter media wrapped around the intake and outtake valves and that has worked very well. Even my female betta in her 10-gallon was having trouble swimming in the current of the filter I purchased. She's happy now.

Yeah, he's a one fish kind-of-guy. He's trained to eat food from my fingers, so he is a bit nippy. When I was adding a plant into the female's tank, I should have taken her out, because she decided my arm was lunch and bit me twice. Those little bettas sure have strong mouths. lol

my experience with walmart heaters was the opposite my water could be freezing and they never turned on went through 2 of them before one finally did its job but it was their adjustable 60w instead of their lil auto ones for tropical

Walmart heaters? hm I think it would depend on the brand...not walmart. They don't sell wal-mart brand heaters do they? lol. Wal-mart's prices are really cheap. I found a piece of lava rock there for like $3.99 and then you go to petco and it's like $9.99 but everything is overpriced at Petco
