iam after a hatchery or what every u call them.

I just want to put already born fish into it and ideally remove the V section to allow more room for the babies.

some have holes for water flow but seen reviews were babies get through , so mustnt have that issue.

hopefully be for baby sajica cichlids if they have a second batch.

mustnt be over small and ideally float and have no way of other cichlids getting at babies.

last time they ate through net breeder and ate the lot.

any idea's

Really you'd be far, far better off with a separate grow out tank.

You can use a plastic storage box and sponge filter; it's cheaper to get a large volume one than it is to buy the same size glass tank, and you're not tempted into having another tank set up!

All hatcheries are honestly too small for fry to grow properly.

i hear u but money is tight and was looking for at least an option opposed to them getting eaten again.
what would u do for a light or dont u need one ?
assume sponge filter goes on air pump. (never used one)
might work out the cost.
what is the smallest that would be big enough lol for say 30 ish sajica cichlid nippers for example.
oh i would have another 2 or 3 tanks if it was up to me lol.

You don't need a light, no.

I wouldn't want to try and raise any kind of fry in less than 60l, but the bigger the better, especially with larger cichlids like yours. You'll need to be doing daily water changes as well, or the fry could end up stunted.

One of the advantages of storage boxes is the cost; you should be able to pick something up from one of the supermarkets or DIY shops for around a tenner, for a 60 or 80l one.

You can use a normal filter, if you've got one spare, but you'll need to cover any intakes; if you use a piece of coarse filter sponge, it can act as a food source for the fry as well.

What other fish do you have in with the sajica? these fish are excellent parents and will defend their brood against most fish.

Not sure how many fry you need to house, but I use these for pleco fry:

Marina Hang On Breeding Box Large

Designed for breeding, isolating or acclimatizing fish or shrimp, the Marina Hang On Breeding Box is a safe & secure nursery for livebearer fish that hangs on the outside of the aquarium to make viewing and maintenance easy. Warm, oxygenated water from main aquarium circulates continuously through the breeding box with the use of an air pump (sold separately), so that fish enjoy the same conditions as the aquarium. Additional heaters or filters not required.

_ Multi-Purpose
_ Safe & secure tank for breeding, isolating or acclimatizing fish or shrimp
_ Space-saving design, easily installs on the exterior of the aquarium
_ Up to 3 separate compartments for breeding, isolating or acclimatizing fish, using partition plates (included)
_ For frameless aquariums use with min. 5 mm glass thickness
_ Measures 26 cm (10 1/4") wide, 6" high, 6" deep and holds 2.0 Liters (0.5 US gal.) of water.

I am in the states and these are easy to find, they come in smaller sizes too.

Water is pumped in using air and it flows out the other end through a grate to prevent fry getting out. One caveat- in tanks with gunk in the water I use a filter bag over the intake to prevent the gunk from being sucked into the breeder box.
