Hello,

I was wondering what are the best fish to handfeed. which species will most willingly come up and take food out your fingers.

Im just stocking a tropical tank and was wondering.

I no from experience with my girlfriends aquarium that angelfish are very willing and even danios will snatch little bites of food from your fingers.

Any others?

In my aquarium any fish will swim up into my hand and eat food! I have swordtails, platys, guppies, and a dwarf gourami. I think it's more of a "getting to know you" kind of thing. Once the fish trust you they'll happily accept food from your hand! :)

Bettas are pretty easy to handfeed. Well, at least mine are! As long as there is food on your fingers, that's all the fish could care about :p !

I agree with the poster above.

If I hold a piece of pea inbetween my fingers, the danios, mollys and Bettas will come and nibble. Obviously the tetras and plecs being lower of the tank feeders don't

i have only had my 4 rosy barbs for a short time, but i've managed to submerge a large flake just below the surface of the water and they'd nibble at it and my fingers.

i can hand feed my gar, eel, bichir and stingray im working on the arowana at the moment and he is nearly coming round
gotta watch those fingers tho

i find my DP pretty easy to hand feed a bloodworm, its fun i do it all the time  I think i would be able to handfeed my Bumblebee gobies too as when I put my hand in the always stick to it.

Buuuuuut if you want to have fun while handfeeding try handfeeding a snakehead :shifty:

Note: geo7x will take no responsibility for any fingers lost during the handfeeding of a snakehead

My Betta's and Apisto Cacatouides eat from my hand and even nibble at my fingers when I am arranging plants in the tank...it is a nightmare when changing the water as they are so tame they always swim up to the tube giving me a heart attack half the time <sighs> My Neons are also pretty tame and come right up to the surface at feeding time but won't take from my fingers.

Pufferfish can also become very tame and eat from the hand.

I also have Rosy Barbs, and while I have never actually hand fed them, they always nibble at my fingers and arm when I'm cleaning the tank. I would imagine they wouldn't be too hard to train to hand feed if they're brave enough to nibble you!

i don't know if its unusual or not but i hand feed my plec sometimes with some cucumber. If i put a slice of cucumber on my palm, my plec will swim onto my hand and start nibbling away, he/she has a great personality, i can alsoi hand feed my platies, angelfish, betta, and kribs.

my tiger barbs will eat from my hand and follow my arm around the tank when im cleaning it lol

peacock eel isnt scared of a damn thing ever be it my hand neighbours cat nada eating from my hand is childs play for it lol

Oscars will eat from your hand because they never get full!!! One time I was at my uncles and I was eating supper and his baby oscar was ffacing the side of the tank that I was eating by for 35 minutes trying to eat through the glass and to my food. My uncle let me had feed him, also I opend up the lid, had a piece of beefheart and he jumped out of the tank and bit the beefheart out of my hand!!!! They have great personalities.

Mudskippers.... In the proper brackish set-up, they will jump on your hand and feed eagerly, almost fearless. Quite possibly one of the most entertaining fish available....just give 'em the right conditions.
