I'm relatively new to fish keeping, but I've learnt a lot in the last few months, thanks to the help I've received here.

I've also bought a fairly large stack of fish food for my fish, I think I spend more money on their food than myself! The problem everytime I go to the LFS is that its really hard to leave without buying something, since I have to stop myself from buying more fish, I always end up buying fish food or something for the fish. I should stop visiting the LFS so frequently!

Anyway, back on topic, I was wondering what fish food you feed your fish and what brands do you think are the best out there?

This is what I feed my fish:

- Hikari sinking and algae wafers
- Tetra Colourbits Granule
- Sera San (Colour enhancing flakes)
- Nutrafin Max fish flakes
- Hikari frozen bloodworms & brine shrimp
- Wardley Shrimp Pellets

Are the fish food line made by Sera considered the best? I asked the LFS and they felt that the Sera granules are as good as the Tetra granules, but not better. Both are made in Germany.

Hopefully, I see some results, i.e. nice healthy looking fish with nice colours, otherwise I might be better off getting the cheaper fish food.

I've also been reading some good stuff on the fish food made by New Life Spectrum - has anyone tried their products before?

Sorry for the long post, but would definitely be interested to hear back since I want to get the best food (and tastiest) for my fish!

I think variety is far better than just feeding one product that's "the best". But I primarily feed a mixture of a range of Hikari and Tetra and I think one or two Sera (which also has a great range). I probably have about 10 different types of food I feed a mixed rotation of.

Hi Bloo, I agree - I try and feed them a variety but isnt it also essential to feed them a regular fish food as part of their staple diet?

mmm not sure. At least one of the foods I feed each day is a "staple" food - but that varies for me (or my fish rather).

i give the gourami tank and livebearers tank tetra flakes as they're usual food, plus some hikari sinking algae wafers for the ground crew, also feed frozen and live food a few times a week.

my big chiclids love the hikari chiclid pellets better than anything so they usually get those, also frozen and live food sometimes.

I'm the same though if something catches my eye in the lfs I'll get it and give them it now and again, good to keep the diet varied. I wouldn't want to eat the same thing everyday so I'm sure they won't :)
