i have two 9-watt screw-in cfl bulbs on my 10 gallon. they are 5500k daylight, but i suspect the 4 otos are not getting as much algae as they should. so i would like to grow some with a change in the lighting.

what is the best type of cfl to encourage algae growth?

Technically there isn't. There isn't a bulb best for algae growth but if you really want then leave the lights on for longer or add more light. Starving your plants of nutrients will bring about algae too. Be prepared for the worst

the 4 female bettas always eat the algae wafers i put in just before lights out. the otos aren't too keen on zucchini either.

leave the lights on for 12-14hrs per day, however this isnt guaranteed to bring on diatoms or green dust algae which otto's generally prefer.
