Just went in to do a water change and found our male powder blue dwarf gourami bert wedged in a piece of dead ocean rock (lfs has it ) he was stuck tight , we managed tu push him back the way he went in but he is looking bruised on his tummy and some of his fin is missing , he did this about 5 months ago , didnt think he would make the same mistake twice , im so sad , i really hope he pulls through he is v quiet , am praying its just shock.

Hopefuly he'll recover - but maybe it would be a good idea to get rid of this rock considering he's already done this twice?

BTW, take a peice of this rock out and put a drop of vinegar on it (rinse before returning it to the tank if you are going to!) - does it fizz?

Have removed the rock , as soon as he did it , will get hubby to try that with vinegar asap and let you know result , he seems better today thank god .

My parents had a kissing gourami that did the same but they didnt save theirs in time so be lucky :good:

put vinegar on it , no fizzing :)

have gotten rid of the rock now

the great news is bert is looking and behaving much better , im so happy he is ok , he is a little sweetheart :)

The vinegar test shows whether the rock contains any calcium (carbonate). This compound increases the hardness of water. If you'd removed a rock like this, you'd have caused a change in pH and hardness which could kill your fish. I was just asking to make sure that removing the rock would be a safe thing to do :)

bad news , bert passed away on christmas eve , am ever so sad , his best friend dash (a male betta , believe it or not ) is pining for him , and we miss him dearly , he developed a bump and stopped eating goodbye little guy , you will always be missed :(
