Hi.I have a "Bermuda" pressurised pond filter with a "U.V." light (6Watts)
Since ive had this filter (approx 2 months) everything seemed to be fine, with reasonably clear water.
However, last week, the water became VERY cloudy (couldnt see the bottom of pond) so i took the top off the filter and checked the u.v.light only to find that it had snapped off from the electrical connection.
I returned it to the store and they gave me a new one.
I refitted it last Tuesday, but the water hasnt cleared at all.
There is a glowing light at the top of the filter which obviously shows the light is working, but for some reason, this isnt clearing the water.
I am very tempted to go out and buy one of those seperate "u.v.clarifiers" which are shaped like a long tube and you use them "in line" i think.
My light is 6 watts..but i think you can buy these seperate clarifiers up to 55 watts.
Any ideas or suggestions please???

have you checked to see if the filter needs cleaning/blockages etc,i have to clean mine at least once a week to keep it running at 100%,with all the rain weve had as well the pond does get murky from time to time and the fish dont help when there in a feeding frenzy :hyper:

I'm not familiar with your filter so i wouldn't like to coment on that. But i've found that with ponds the best way to kep them clear is plenty of Oxygentaing plants (when the fish don't eat them) Perhaps try adding some more of them.

Hi bribones :kana:
Yep,ive cleaned out the filters twice this week (and it absolutly stinks inside the filter) :/
Cant say ive noticed this type of smell before.
The water is very brown and theres a lot of "sludge" attatched to the filter pads.
** Just a thought......my neighbours pond went very cloudy a while ago,and they discovered a dead bird floating on top of the water amongst the plants. It was very badly decomposed, and once they had removed it and cleaned filters etc...the water terturned to normal**
Just wondering if i may have the same problem, but with a frog :dunno:
I have some small rocks under my waterfall where the frogs seem to "hang out" during the day.
Maybe one of them has decided to "curl up and die" behind the rocks :dunno:

Do you think when i clean filter pads that i should completly empty the filter box and turn it upside down to thouroughly wash it out?

Im sure this isnt a big problem i have here, but i want to get it sorted before i go on holiday in a weeks time

when i clean my filter I take the sponges out, wash them of all the crud and then stick the hose in the bio rings to get most the crud out.

but you shouldn't completely wash the bio rings as you may wash away too much of the bacteria living on them.

as with paul i only ever rinse mine i dont wash out it completly ,(need to save the good bacteria)but i do give the sponge a good wash,i also clean the pump out once a month and flush the hozes, just in case theres a build up of muck

A UV is there to deal with algae and algae blooms controlling them, if your water is not green but cloudy then it is no the UV that is your problem.

Thanks for the replies.

Ill definitly try the hozepipe in the filter tomorrow(not for too long of course).

Yes,the water is cloudy and not green,so ill keep an eye on that too.

Thanks once again
