I picked up my cardnal a week or two ago and he is doing great. I feed him daily and he just loves mysis shrimp. Well I wanted to get some varing food in his diet and picked up another frozen food (prime reef). He wont touch it. any thoughts? Anyone got suggestions for coaxing picky fish to eat new foods?

Try Cyclopeeze...small pieces of chopped squid or shrimp. Most fish will be very picky when they first acclimate and many will 'loosen up' over time. My clown, sixline and firefish would only eat cyclopeeze in the beginning. They now eat flake, slow sinking pellet, mysis, squid, brine, etc. If you don't feed everyday, they may be more prone to try different foods. You can even try nori (seaweed). SH

Here's another suggestion...see the size of those eyes on the Banggai? He's mostly nocturnal. Try feeding him just after the lights go down. SH

I havent had a chance to pick up cyclopeeze yet, but my question is this. he eats the mysis shrimp. should I just keep feeding him that and alternate in every now and then the prime reef he wont eat, or should I feed him the stuff he wont take until he does take it?

If he only eats mysid, I'm sure he'll prolly survive, but, I'd still rotate stuff thru there to try and make it varied. Remember, in real life, things are tough out on those reefs. He won't die if he doesn't eat for a day or so. BTW, everything in my tank eats Cyclopeeze, including the CORALS. SH

Just break off a small piece and drop it in the tank..or...I melt some in a shotglass and add tank water, spray it onto the corals with a plastic pipette/dropper. SH
