Hi!

I am completely new to fish keeping and was hoping for some advice!

I have found an established ~150L tank for sale that seems like great deal. According to the listing, here is the list of what it comes with:

ALL of the plants (about $150 worth)
Driftwood
Rocks
Substrate (mix of plant soil & gravel)
Brand new 2ft LED light
Spare near new 2ft light
Heater
Filters & air pump
Male Betta
Dwarf cories
Plus a huge colony of Red Cherry Shrimp
Fish food & shrimp food
Water conditioner & fertiliser
Huge storage container of extras

It is a good looking tank with heaps of plants. She is asking $300, which seems like a great deal to me. Does that sound okay?

Also I was hoping to have a tank with male Guppies, a bristenose and RCS. I was thinking I'd start a new smaller tank for the betta or find it a new home, and add the BN and guppies in with the RCS and cries. Would they all get along?

Thanks in advance!

Hi KRL:

If everything is in good shape then yes, that seems to be a very good deal! Do you have a plan for moving the tank to your home?

It would definitely be a good idea to get the betta into his own separate tank. You certainly don't want him in with fancy guppies.

I'm not experienced with the cherry shrimp but others on the forum may have some advice for you on them.

Hi Docpark, thanks for your reply!

The lady I'm buying from seems to have done it all before and knows how to break down the tank. She seems confident and knowledgeable! She has also offered to let me call her while I'm setting it back up if I run into trouble.

Make sure, when you're breaking the tank down and setting it back up, that NO straight tap water is used. You must make sure the filter bacteria survive the move, so everything in the filter needs to be kept wet, and if you need to clean anything use ONLY some old tank water, or warmed, dechlorinated water.

Best of luck; moving tanks is not much fun!

Will do, thanks! I must admit, as much as I'm looking forward to the tank, I'm not looking forward to the move.

Before you start thinking of stocking what sort of water do you have? PH KH Gh

pH should be around 7.8 (based on Council water). What is KH and Gh?
