I've never spawned Bettas before and so I have a few questions.

1] How can I make this work with one red Betta in a 10 gallon tank?
2] Will all of the fry consist of the same color?
3] Which color will the fry inherit? [My guess is the father?]
4] What equipment(s) do I need in order to spawn?
5] How do I when the female is ready?
6] Also can the female be placed in a community tank consist of guppies, mollies, platies, and swordtails afterward spawning?
7] What food is best to feed the fry?
8] Approx. how many days does it take for the eggs to hatch?
9] Temperate best kept for Betta fry?

Sorry if any of the above question sounds really redundant.

I'm also new to betta spawning and over the last few weeks i've been reading up. There is alot to learn. Have a look at this site for the spawning section.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

As Chad said most of those questions are answered in the breeding section of our website (just click on my siggie and it will take you straight there).

As for question 6........it's best to keep the female separate on her own for at least a couple of weeks after spawning. She'll be quite stressed and possible bruised and battered from the spawning and this can lead to infections and also increases the risk of being picked on by other fish. She'll need to be brought back to full health before putting back with any other fish. For this reason we actually keep all our breeding females in separate tanks.
